Maintaining a positive relationship between dog owners and other park users

Being allowed to utilize an off leash parks is a privilege but dog owners don’t seem understand this and are allowing their dogs become more and more of a hassle in these regions.

Because the park is off leash to your dog doesn’t indicate that your puppy can do anything it likes. In many council areas dog owners are needed to share the park with joggers, walkers, cyclists and parents.

Dog owners’ may not assume that because their dog is friendly that every dog in the park will love running around with it. Also parents might not love your dog having a sniff and sticking its nose! Dogs off leash are also a hazard getting in the way of joggers and cyclists worse, chasing them.

Here’s a list of ideas which can maintain positive connections between pet owners and other park users.

Practise recalling your puppy to you even when you don’t have to. Use a whistle or a squeaker over long distances for coming back and always reward your puppy. Always give your dog plenty of pats. It’s up to you in the event that you want to use treats; however, the benefit has been allowed to run again. If you scold or punish your puppy it only won’t and it can’t be blamed by you. Should you train your dog to return to you and reward it allow it to run your dog will always wish to come to you. There’ll be a time when you’ll want to place it but that is okay if you allow it to go during training.

If they are happy for your puppy to fulfill with theirs, if you see someone ask. If they meet new dogs, dogs are over whelmed and this may encourage aggression. It’s best to make sure the other person’s pet is favorable. It may be your dog that ends up being bitten and this can cause fear based aggression later on.

When they see you do the same, if you see somebody place their dog on leash. They know their dog and might feel they need to protect it. It is safe practise that you do exactly the same.

Whether there are homes that back onto the park be sure your dog start barking at the dogs on the opposite side and does not go up to fences. When their dog is barking excessively their owners may get complaints from neighbours. Because it is being goaded by another dog through the fence it could be unfair to get into trouble.

If your dog runs following jogger or a fisherman walk away as you are calling it. That your dog might think it is some kind of game and believe you’re worthwhile it for chasing the bicycle or jogger if you attempt to grab your puppy and / or chase it. Your dog will wish to follow you Should you walk in the direction. If this happens please shout an apology to the other person — it’s just good manners!

If your puppy does simply won’t come back then use a very long lineup or lunge line and runs away. If your dog is competitive 10, one might be used by you. A wonderful 20 metre leash will provide your pet the freedom to roam about and take in or even the smells at the park as you have the security of being able to reel it in if necessary.

Start training your dog to run off leash as you can. As young puppies are more easy to train don’t be afraid of beginning this type of training as soon as you get him or her. They will respond to plenty of affection and it will help build your relationship with it more.

Being a responsible dog owner is about accepting the rights of other people into consideration and ensuring they are left alone to utilize the park in almost any way they want. Authorities are well within their rights to deny our puppies access to such areas and that would be a shame if this does not happen.
